So something people should know about me by now is I love series so much. I always have, and I hope I always will. Usually, I’d rather start a series then start a standalone. Now standalones have some great benefits, like I don’t need to commit to them as much. But I find series tend to have more of the stuff I like. Long character development arcs, complex plots and subplots, bigger build up, and thus bigger pay offs.

Because of that, I’ve started A LOT of series in my time. And I while I have finished a lot of them, I haven’t finished them all. I am planning on doing an updated list of my completed series, but before I did that I wanted to go ahead and take a look at the ones I’ve STARTED, and see where I stand on them now.

(aka – series where all books have been released but I haven’t finished)

1: The Enemy Series by Charlie Higson: Okay, I know everyone is SICK of hearing about this series. BUT I’VE BEEN TRYING TO FINISH IT FOR SO LONG AND IM SO CLOSE. This is a zombie apocalypse series that I started when I was in primary school and wanted to finish ever since. I started rereading it in 2016, and then continuing the books I hadn’t read, and I oly have the last book (The End) to go which is so exciting!

2: A Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin: This is probably a series on lots of people’s lists. I read books one and two and liked them, and read a good chunk of book 3 but put it down. I do intend to finish this series, I just need to wait for the urge to hit me.

3: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan: So I read The Lightning Thief in 2016 and wasn’t that motivated to continue. But my library had books two and three on audio so I tried them and GOD I’m obsessed! I have found a love for this series and I hope to finish it next month

4: The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kuafman: Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this series. I liked book one, kinda hated book two, and have mixed feeling on Jay Kristoff as an author. But I plan on reading this next month for Marvel-A-Thon. I’m too deep in this series to NOT read the last book.

5: The Winners Curse trilogy by Marie Rutkoski: This is a series I probably won’t finish. I really disliked book one and all the tropes it tried to introduce. The slave romance was, really not my cup of tea, and although the main character was okay I didn’t feel attached enough to draw me back.

6: Mistborn Trilogy Part Two by Brandon Sanderson: I am a big fan of the original Mistborn trilogy, but after reading the first book in the spin off series I am unsure if I’ll continue. Alloy of Law just did not have the same worldbuilding or characters I fell in love with in Mistborn. Also, I’m hesitant to support Sanderson as an author.

7: Imdalind Series by Rebecca Ethington: I read book one in 2016 and have never continued, although I always told myself I would. Book two is gonna make or break this series for me, but I haven’t felt motivated to ever read it, which makes me wonder if I will ever actually continue on.

8: Three Dark Thrones by Kendare Blake: I really disliked book one and thought I wouldn’t continue the series. I did hear some better things about book two, but I don’t think I’ll ever continue this series.

9: The Star Touched Queen Duology by Roshani Chokshi: I really enjoyed the first book, and I heard even better things about the second one. But I struggled really hard to find this book – however, I finally found a library that has it and I plan on reading it next month.

10: Dreadnought by April Daniels: I enjoyed Dreadnought, but since haven’t felt motivated to read book two. I kind of forgot what happens in the first book which doesn’t help. I intend to one day finish this series, but I don’t know when that will be.

11: The Ashala Wolf Trilogy by Ambelin Kwaymullina: This is a dystopian with a Indigenous Australian main character. I loved the first book, and intend to complete this series when I feel in the mood for it.

12: Gentleman Bastards Series by Scott Lynch: I really liked book one in this series and feel like I’m gonna adore the whole series. These books are MASSIVE though, and that is really putting me off picking up book two.

13: Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud: I listened to the first book of this series on Audible and enjoyed it, but haven’t thought to continue on yet. IopI h heard good things about the series overall but just haven’t been in the mood for this yet, since it’s pretty spooky and follows ghost hunters. I am unsure when I’ll continue this but I’d like to eventually

14: Inkmistress by Audrey Coulthurst: This is either the sequel or prequel to Of Fire and Stars, which I didn’t enjoy that much. I liked the romance but I didn’t like the first person narration much and found the story kind of boring and predictable. I don’t know if I’ll ever pick this up since I’m not really interested in what happens next.

15: Double Down by M. Chandler: I read the first book in this series and liked it, but I heard bad things about the sequel that made me not want to continue that much. These book are free though, and thats the one reason I think I might continue one day.

16: Chainbreaker by Tara Sim: I don’t blame myself for not having read this yet as I only just finished book one. But I LOVED book one and want to continue this series ASAP as I heard book two is even better. I requested this from the library so I’m hoping that request comes through soon.

(aka – series that need to drop the next book ASAP)

1: The Guide Series by Mackenzi Lee: I am SO EXCITED for Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy to come out. It’s going to feature Felicity, who I loved in the first book. This series is so fun and cute and funny and I can’t wait to read this.

2: The Conquerors Saga by Kiersten White: I read the first two books in this series earlier this year and LOVED THEM BOTH. And Now I Rise ended on the biggest cliffhanger ever, and I am so ready to see what happens next. I am concerned and scared, but ready.

3: Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers: First of all, can we appreciate how great these covers are. Second of all, gosh damn I adore this world so much. It always makes me feel warm and good. I don’t know if I’ll read this straight away because I got to be in the mood for these books, but I am excited to get to it.

4: Ember Quartet by Sabaa Tahir: God, I’m so excited for this. Way more than I thought I would be, to be honest. But I seriously adore these characters and this world. Plus these books are starting to get to the pointy end of things and I’m expecting some big moments in this book.

5: The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare: *softly but with feeling* fuck. FUCK I’m not ready. Cassie’s endings always KILL ME and this is my favourite trilogy of hers by far. Julian? Emma? Cristina? Mark? Ty? Kit? Dru? I would die for them all without thinking. IM SO NERVOUS AND SCARED BUT ALSO, IT’S SO FAR AWAY I WANT IT NOW.

6: Wayward Children #4 by Seanan McGuire: I am obsessed with this series. I would read a thousand of these. So of course I’m so ready for the fourth book to come out, which will feature Miss Lundy’s story.

7: The Folk of the Air by Holly Black: Okay, so The Cruel Prince could have been better, BUT that ending had me shook. Thus I’d like to read the next book asap as possible. I feel like this series has a lot of room to develop and grow which is exciting.

8: Villains by V.E Schwab: I only read Vicious a month ago, but I am KEEN for the sequel. That book was so unique, dark and twisted and I actually thought it ended in a good place so I’m curious to see what Schwab does with the sequel. In my experience, V.E Schwab is an author who’s book series get better with each one so I’m expecting big things.

9: Warcross by Marie Lu: Warcross was one of my favourite releases last year, and Marie Lu is one of my favourite authors so obviously this is a big release for me. Marie Lu always changes the game in my experience with her second books, and my favourite book of hers is a second book (The Rose Society) so I have high expectations.

More series except there’s no cover

10: The Diviners #4 by Libba Bray: WOW okay I just finished getting up to date on this series and I’m seriously obsessed. I think we’re in for a long wait for The Diviners #4 but I’m literally suffering so much already. Need it in my hands right now immediately.

11: Song of the Dead by Sarah Glen Marsh: I’ve been talking a lot recently about how much I liked Reign of the Fallen and so I cannot wait for the sequel. It’s scheduled for January 29th, 2019 WHICH IS WAY TOO FAR AWAY FYI.

12: King of Fools by Amanda Foody: Including this is a bit extra since the first book isn’t even out yet, but I’ve read the arc and I NEED BOOK TWO NOW THANKS.

13: Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston: So the first book wasn’t my favourite ever, but it had POTENTIAL. And it had really great writing that made me super entertained by the story even ifΒ  I wasn’t love it. This is gonna be a make or break book for me.

And thats all for today! There’s actually WAY MORE (I have 53 series marked as “series to complete” on Goodreads … whoops.

I absolutely adore series and there are so many great ones coming out soon, I can’t wait. I miss all my babies so much.

until next time!

      1. Haha that’s true, Rick Riordan has written a lot of books. But they’re all so good, it’s honestly so worth it to read all of them! πŸ™‚ (My favorite series from him will forever be PJO/HOO though. Have fun reading this series, it’s honestly so amazing and I love all the characters so much! <3)

Yeah I feel that. I remember once he made a twitter thread basically talking about how well he understands women and how great he is for writing a female mc and I was like, ,,,, really put off

  1. Gentleman Bastard books *are* kind of long (Lynch has some issues with pacing), but I think the other two books are just as fun as the first one so I hardly noticed the page count. And I really should read the first two books in the Wayfarers Series before the third drops. I’m in need of warm and fuzzy stories. 😊

    1. Yeah I definitely noticed that with the first one. At first it was hard to get into but when it hit it’s stride I barely even noticed the page count, and I’ve heard really good things about book 2 and 3 as well. They’re so sweet and warm, the world makes me soo happy!! You should try read them if you can I love them

  2. Haha, I did a post about this recently too because honestly I am drowning in series I haven’t finished (or some that I haven’t started). I recently bought The Enemy so that’ll be another series I’m due to start (RIP me), but also CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW SOON RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW WILL BE HERE?! I pre-ordered my copy today and I can’t wait any longer!

    1. My life is just constantly drowning in series it’s a mess. I *just* finished The Enemy! I enjoyed it a lot and I’m really glad I read it even though it took ages to finish since there is seven books yikes.

YES WE CAN I’M SO EXCITED FOR IT. The groups from both books are supposed to be coming back together and I can’t WAITTT

  3. I totally understand you about the second part of the Mistborn series. I adored the first three but the Alloy of Law just didn’t do it for me. I liked Wax and Wayne’s friendship but that was really about it.

  4. Oh my God, I feel like if I did this post, I would just be drowning in unread books, but hurrah for you because you list isn’t actually that bad? I’ve been meaning to continue on past the og trilogy and read Alloy of Law but I just don’t know if I should. Mistborn is one of my faves and I don’t know if it’s worth continuing on with different characters or if I should just read some of the author’s other books.
You have so many great series on here: Diviners, Wayward Children, Warcross, Lockwood and Co, Percy Jackson… you have some fun reading months ahead of you!

  5. The Mistborn trilogy is on my list! I’ve only read the first book but the size of them puts me off. Plus I’m just REALLY bad with series anyway. I only ever seem to read the first book and then abandon it πŸ˜†
Loved this post! And your graphics!

  6. Oh great post! πŸ˜€ I also need to finish the Illuminae series, I’ve heard great things about Obsidio so far, but honestly I’m a bit scared to read it, just because… I don’t know, haha πŸ™‚ I feel the same way about The Winner’s Curse series. I read the first two books and, despite all the hype and friends recommending it, somehow I wasn’t totally on board with the book as a whole. I think I might finish the series eventually, just because I’m curious, but I am in no rush at all to do so.
I am so, SO hyped for Wildcard! I loved Warcross so, SO MUCH and I can’t wait to see what happens next πŸ˜€
