#BTAT17 || Wrap-Up

I debated on whether or not I should make this post, because I didn’t feel like I did that well on the 2017 booktubeathon and was kinda disappointed with myself.

But I’d promised myself before btat that I was just going to do the best I can and I did that, even if I didn’t complete the seven prompts. I think there is so much pressure around readathons and I want to celebrate what I did and not what I could have done.

If you want to see my tbr post and announcement you can, but if you’ve seen it or just don’t care read on to see what I completed in the week of booktubeathon.

BOOKS I COMPLETED IN THE BOOKTUBEATHON 2017

1: Saga Part One

I read this graphic novel for the reading outside prompt and the read a book in one day prompt. I’ve been meaning to read these grapic novels for the longest time and I really enjoyed the first part! I’ve since read part two as well and really liked that too.

Saga is about two aliens, who’s planets are at war with eachother. They fall in love and have a baby, and are not on the run after the leaders of their planets sent assassins after them, It’s basically space Romeo and Juliet. I LOVE the characters and the art and the story very excited to finish the series off.

2: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

I read this one for the cover buy prompt. I’ve heard so many mixed things about this book and I think I feel somewhere in the middle. I didn’t loathe it, but I also don’t think it was very strong either. I wouldn’t reread it, but I might try the sequel.

Caraval is about two sisters who are invited to participate in Caraval – a circus style game where players must navigate the strange world of Caraval to find something missing and win the game.

3: The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember

I read this for the “someone different to you prompt” but it can also fit for the person on the cover prompt. I chose it as a person different because of it featuring mermaids and nordic gods which are NOT like me.

The Seafarers Kiss is a Little Mermaid retelling / Ursula origin story focussing on an f/f romance between Ursula as a mermaid and a human girl she falls in love with. I overall really enjoyed it, it’s really short and goes by SO fast but I did have a few little concerns with it, like some of the tropes and rep. THE COVER IS AMAZING THOUGH

And that was all the books I completed! Only 3/7 and two of them were super short, but alll well. I had lots of other stuff going on that weekend, and I don’t think you need to complete heaps and heaps of books to be considered successful. As my parents would say it’s just about having a good time.

How did everyone else go for the booktubeathon? This was my first time competing but I am looking forward to 2018. And what other readathons are people attempting? I’ll be doing #TomeTopple and #TheReadingQuest soon

BookTubeAThon 2017 | Tbr

BookTubeAThon 2017 is coming up soon! Monday 24- Sunday 30 is the official dates and I’ve decided to have a go at participating. I’ve never really done a readathon before, because I’ve always been at school or during the week so I felt like there wasn’t much of a point.

I’ve still got stuff going on, but since it’s Uni break I thought I might give it a go. I don’t think I’ll be doing it too seriously or putting too much pressure on myself, but I’ve chosen out a rough tbr for the prompts anyway!

Prompt 1: A book with a person on the cover

My choice: The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson

I’m a massive fan of Shaun David Hutchinson and have read all his books except this one. Since I’ve been meaning to do it, and it obviously has a person right smack bang in the middle of the cover it seemed like an obvious choice.

Andrew Brawley is about a boy who’s entire family dies in a car crash and how he’s dealing with the aftermath. I don’t know heaps about it, but I’m expecting it to have the same charm and raw emotion of his other books.

Prompt 2: Read a hyped book

My choice: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This one was a really easy choice for me. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas has been receiving a tonne of attention and hype, all of which is deserved. I’m convinced I’m gonna love this one and I’m already disappointed in myself for how long I’ve put it off.

It’s about a girl called Starr who see’s her best friend shot by cops, and how she deals with that. Its inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the way it has empowered and moved people, especially black teens, makes me think it’s very special and I’m excited to read it!

Prompt 3: Finish a book in one day

My Choice: Saga Part One by Brian K. Vaughan

For this one I thought it’d be best to go with a graphic novel or poetry collection since thats gonna be much shorter then a novel obviously.

I decided to go with Saga Part 1 by Brian K. Vaughan. I’ve not read Saga yet but it’s been on my tbr and I’m so excited to give it a shot. I’ve never really read a graphic novel series before either, so giving one a go would be good for me since I think it’s nice to try out new things every now and then.

Read about a character thats very different to you

My choice: The Seafarers Kiss by Julia Ember

So, this is a book about a mermaid and an Ice Warrior and since I’m neither I decided to count this. In all honestly I just really want to read this book and it was the prompt I think it fit best into.

The Seafarers Kiss is a f/f romance around a mermaid and Ice Warrior, loosely based around The Little Mermaid and Ursula’s story. I’ve read the first few chapters and really liked them so I’m excited to continue!

Read a whole book outdoors

My choice: Saga Part 2 OR Undetermined Audiobook

So this is the hardest prompt of all to me, because I NEVER read outside. It’s not comfortable, and aside from that it’s raining SO MUCH right now in Australia and I’d rather not be out there in the cold?

I’m not above cheating so Saga Part Two seems like a good choice if I like Saga Part One. It’s short and sweet. Otherwise, an Audiobook may be an option, but I don’t know which one I want to listen to. If you have recommendations definitely leave them below! Anyway, we’ll see about this one – but honestly I’m not gonna be taking this readathon so seriously I actually force myself to read outside if I don’t want to.

Read a book you bought because of the cover

My Choice: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

I don’t …… do this? My ass way too broke to just be going about buying books just because all willy nilly. So I’ve decided to just go with the closest thing I have which is Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

The reason it’s close is because I knew what it was about and I was kind of on the edge of if I was gonna buy it or not, and then I saw it for cheap in a Target and I was like gosh diddly darn thats a nice cover !? So I just decided to buy it because the cover pushed me over the edge.

Read seven books

Well .. obviously I already have 6 listed. If I do somehow read one more I have a few options. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, Breath by Tim Winton, They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera or maybe Spellslinger by Sebastian De Castell. But honestly? The chances of me getting to this point is kind of low!

Very excited for BookTubeAThon, even though I won’t be taking it as seriously as some people do, it’s still going to be heaps of fun and I’m excited to get some serious reading done! Are you guys participating and what does your tbr look like?
